EPA Presents Prestigious Clean Air Excellence Award to Clear Skies Unlimited

On May 26th 2010, Clear Skies Unlimited received the prestigious 2009 Clean Air Excellence Award from the US Environmental Protection Agency. The US EPA officially recognized Clear Skies Unlimited for their HearthCAT Fireplace Technology.

The HearthCAT™ System has reduced wood smoke emissions from Isokern Modular Masonry Fireplaces to 2.9 g/kg, well below the EPA voluntary program Phase 2 emissions level of 5.1 g/kg. The HearthCAT™-equipped Isokern Fireplaces are the cleanest burning open hearth fireplaces currently qualified under EPA's voluntary fireplace program. The HearthCAT™ has also been successfully EPA qualified in FMI factory-built fireplaces. The FMI Craftsman 36 is easily the most affordable of any of the EPA Phase II Qualified Wood Burning Fireplaces. The HearthCAT™ technology has unlimited potential, since it can be used in new or retrofit fireplaces, and in both open hearth masonry and low mass fireplaces. The HearthCAT™ is approved for retro-fit applications in most of the major air districts in California. It is a passive catalytic device that employs a smoke capture hood to isolate and destroy the offensive pollutants and wood smoke. The system is easily installed, requires no maintenance, and is affordable to the consumer. Clear Skies has also successfully developed a wood stove catalytic combustor, a catalytic retro-fit system for hydronic wood heaters and an exciting new diesel NOx technology.
