Eric Hoffer Award 2013 Book Winners
Online, May 13, 2013 (Newswire.com) - The Eric Hoffer Book Award committee has released its 2013 winners, including the Eric Hoffer Grand Prize for books, People Who Said No by Laura Scandiffio from Annick Press. From the US Review of Books award coverage: "In many ways, this book embodies Eric Hoffer's life and ideals: a voice of reason against the raging tide of mass movements."
Chairman/Author Christopher Klim has stewarded the Hoffer from its humble beginnings to one of the largest international book awards. "This has always been a grass roots effort," Klim said. "Over 100 volunteers and professionals help made it a success."
Prior to the grand prize selection, winners were selected in twenty-three all-inclusive categories, including:
* Best Academic Press: Detroit's Historic Places of Worship, Marla O. Collum, Barbara E. Krueger, & Dorothy Kostuch, Wayne State University Press
* Best Small Press: Buried in the Sky, Peter Zuckerman & Amanda Padoan, WW Norton
* Best Micro Press: Unbroke Horses, D.B.Jackson, Goldminds Publishing
* Best Self-Published Book: The Primal Connection, Mark Sisson, Primal Blueprint Publishing
This year, the Hoffer introduced two new e-book categories.
* E-Book Fiction: The War is Language: 101 Short Works, Nath Jones
* E-book Nonfiction: The Expedition: Dark Waters, Jason Lewis, BillyFish Books
The Eric Hoffer Award also sponsors three unique prizes: the Montaigne Medal for most thought provoking book, the da Vinci Eye for best cover art, and the First Horizon Award for best debut book.
