Erin Lale Publishes Las Vegas Locavore Cookbook

Online, December 21, 2010 (Newswire.com) - The Las Vegas Locavore Cookbook is all about cooking with local ingredients in the desert Southwest. All the ingredients in the recipes can be either purchased or home grown in the Las Vegas area. Author Erin Lale's first job was farm work, and she has always seen a connection between gardening and cooking. "Gardening is spiritual," she says. "It's connecting with nature." Some of the unusual ingredients she grows at her home in the Green Valley area near Las Vegas include lavender, amaranth seed, and epazote, all of which appear in the cookbook. "And of course," she says, "lots of ways to use up the Parsley Forest."

Some of the recipes in the recipe book were developed before she moved there, though, and were previously sold in her eBay Store, Magicalrealist Gallery, as Magical's Original Recipes, which she stopped selling in 2004 as a result of rising eBay Store fees that made low priced downloads uneconomical. Since then, she has been developing a lot of new recipes using the bounty of her garden.

Now the expanded recipe book is available exclusively in the Amazon Kindle Store. Lale explains that her first book, Asatru For Beginners, which is about the Viking religion, is available in three formats, trade paperback, Kindle, and Nook, but that only the Kindle format book pays, so when she was ready to publish her cookbook, she only published it in the Kindle Store. The Kindle Store has recently added a way for customers to give Kindle ebooks as gifts.

Lale says, "This is the right time for a garden to table cookbook for this area. A lot of people are trying to find ways to make gourmet meals for a frugal price, and growing your own food in your yard, or in pots on your balcony like I used to do when I lived in an apartment in Las Vegas, is a great way to do that."
