The concept of building ‘Green’ is catching up fast in India. This provides an evaluation method to design, build, operate and maintain a resource efficient built environment that helps in minimizing the consumption of resources and maintaining the ecosystem balance and in return saving money not just during construction but also year after year. The latest green construction methods being utilized in India are EPS (Expanded Polystyrene or thermocol) an excellent insulator against heat and cold. EIFS (External Insulation and Finish System) or 'Synthetic Plastering', meant for exteriors of buildings, which adds insulation and aesthetics like never before. ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms) are stay-in concrete forms and are EPS molded box like objects which are open at the top and bottom. The edges at the top and the bottom have interlocking features. When placed one on top of the other, they get locked into each other firmly. ICFs are simply placed one next to the other in a line to form the wall. Hence, green construction involves integrating modern science with traditional construction practices to achieve the most efficient, sustainable and comfortable living spaces.
