Ever Look a Gorilla in the Eye?

Award-winning photographer, Michael Duva has done just that with his new Animal Portraits project. His new website, an.imals.net features provocative images of wild and domestic animals against a stark black background.

While Duva's work reveals at once his love and fascination for animals, these are not cute photographs of kittens. His haunting animal portraits compel the viewer with an un-flinching clarity, to view the animals as equals.

Duva's technique is simple: he goes to the animal and waits. The shutter closes, and the image is captured, but what a miracle it is to see if only for a moment through the eyes of an eagle.

Whether in an aviary or animal sanctuary, a farm or out in the wild, Duva's vision is unified by his masterful technique and by his reverence of the animal spirit within all of us.

Michael Duva is a professional photographer, living and working in New York City. He attended Rutgers University and School of Visual Arts, studying engineering/film and photography, respectively. He was born (1975) and lived in NJ until he moved to New York in 1999.

Mr. Duva's photography projects and subjects span a wide range from still life to animals, reflecting his love of the subjects he photographs. He has won numerous awards and is internationally published. His images are also featured as cover artwork for a number of best selling books from the likes of Mary Higgins Clark, Irvine Welsch and Joseph O'Neil. He is a volunteer and supporter of several animal rescues, as well as a supporter of several wild life agencies devoted to conservation and education.
