A long-time Boston-area entrepreneur and technical writer today announced the formation of Writeinteractive, Inc. The start-up plans to help companies address the myriad of challenges associated with producing technical documentation in-house, especially for those in regulated industries.

Writeinteractive will provide technical writing and editing services, plus SharePoint development, web development, and knowledge management solutions on an outsourced basis. Companies struggling with managing the documentation load can contract with Writeinteractive to create and update standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, user manuals, quick reference guides, SharePoint sites, knowledge base articles, and the like.

There is a documentation crisis looming, and many companies are falling behind on their audit responsibilities.

Tim Brennan, Founder, Writeinteractive, Inc.

The company’s founder, Tim Brennan, said, “In over 30 years as a technical communications professional, I can’t remember a time when the need has been so great for content outsourcing. This is particularly true for regulated industries like BioTech, Life Sciences, and Finance who deal daily with having to produce a mountain of documentation to satisfy the stringent requirements of federal agencies.”

As companies work to focus on product delivery that impacts their bottom line, the documentation required is often an afterthought. As a result, many companies often find themselves playing catch up to address customer concerns and findings by regulating authorities.

“There is truly a documentation crisis looming, and many companies are falling behind on their audit responsibilities. Writeinteractive is here to answer the call not just for technical writing but for related support services as well,” Brennan said.

The documentation upkeep required to meet federal regulations can be particularly daunting. In the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device industries for example, organizations must adhere to stringent GxP regulations like Good Documentation Practices (GDP), or they could face harsh penalties by the FDA. GDP governs the minimum standard operating procedure (SOP) requirements for computer systems, manufacturing processes, and laboratory practices, to name a few.

Brennan, who spent the last 10 years working at Biogen and before that MIT, said the company’s goal is ultimately to be a one-stop shop for technical content outsourcing—not just for regulated industries but for any type of company.
