Plant Connection Inc. and the Vancouver, BC, Canada based Streamline Enterprises are thrilled to announce a new strategic partnership, which promises to become the standard in the burgeoning green roof and living wall industry: GRO2 GroRoofsTM & GroWallsTM (see www.gro2.ca). This alliance combines the diverse skills and experience of two cutting-edge companies, with countless years of design, horticultural and technical knowledge in both the green roof and living wall businesses. It maintains their existing continent-wide network of growers, installers, and maintenance technicians across North America; and also preserves two carefully-selected and placed manufacturers, to serve both the East and West Coast Canadian and U.S. markets.
GRO2 has completed revisions to the design of their GroRoofTM and GroWallTM panels, to further ensure their ease of installation, and long-term performance on-site. Their clients will continue to receive the exceptional level of service and support that they have offered in the past, including manufacturing, design, pre-vegetation services, and complete horticultural consultation. The key difference will come at the pricing level, as GRO2 will be able to offer a superior green roof and living wall system at a lower price. They have also committed a certain percentage of sales to the research, development and education of green roof and living wall technology, to further understand the crucial part it will play in the sustainability of our cities in the 21st century. This new arrangement formally ends any involvement with Green Living Technologies.
The GRO2 brand is being launched with the installation of several prominent projects this Spring (see gro2.blogspot.com). GRO2 GroWallTM panels will be used for growing fresh herb walls in a prominent Italian restaurant in New York City. You can see GRO2 GroWallTM panels in action, as they will be used in several displays at the Macy's Flower Show in Herald Square, New York City this April. GRO2 products will also be featured at the 9th annual Architectural Digest Home Design Show, Pier 94, 12th Ave. at 55th St., New York City, on March 18 - 21, 2010 from 10am - 6pm. Go Green, the nation's leading eco-friendly trade and consumer showcase, runs concurrently March 18-21 at Pier 92. Many more projects are in the development stages in places like Colorado, Boston, Huntsville, and Chicago; please keep checking our website for details www.myplantconnection.com.
The first Canadian project to be launched this Spring is a living wall for a private residence in Vancouver, planted with creeping fig and a variety of edible herbs. The second is a pair of living walls which will be installed at the BC Hydro Power Smart Pavilion for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Finally, there are 67,000 SF of pre-vegetated extensive green roof panels to be installed for Sysco Services in Port Coquitlam in late March. This green roof stands to become one of the five largest in Canada.
GRO2 has been working closely with the non-profit Environmental Youth Alliance and BC Housing, to plan five edible crop walls in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver in Spring/Summer 2010. The first edible wall is due to be installed in Gastown's Blood Alley in the Spring, planted with seasonal fruits and vegetables, such as tomatoes, lettuce, chard, peppers, strawberries and various herbs and leafy greens. The residents of local co-operatives and shelters have been involved in the design, planning and planting process, and will ultimately be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and harvesting of the living wall.
GRO2 is currently working to establish research protocols in conjunction with Cornell University's LI Horticultural Research Center in New York, the Atlantic City Utility Authority and the Richard Stockton College in New Jersey, and the University of Illinois on the benefits that GRO2 GroRoofTM and GroWallTM panels can provide.
We hope that you decide to follow us at GRO2 in moving forward into the New Year, and what promises to be a bright and exciting future. We continue to work extremely hard, on a daily basis, promoting the benefits of green roofing to Architects, Engineers, Designers, Landscape Architects, Homeowners, Contractors, and Developers.
