Exhibition Stand Designers Begin Initiative to Improve Sustainability
Exhibition stand designers Astro Exhibitions have started an initiative to dispose of their wood in a sustainable way. This initiative shows the company's commitment to helping the environment and improving efficiency.
Online, July 28, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Manchester exhibition stand designers Astro Exhibitions have recently begun an initiative whereby, instead of simply disposing of their wood waste by skipping it, they will now do so in a more sustainable manner. The initiative has seen them team up with Yorkshire-based Howarth Environmental Ltd.
Howarth Environmental is a family run firm specialising in wood waste issues. This makes the company a perfect partner for Astro Exhibitions, as most of the waste generated by their exhibition stand construction is wood waste.
The initiative came about when Mark Canale, Astro Exhibitions' Workshop Manager, attended the Greenbuild exhibition to dismantle a stand for one of their current clients. Seeing that Howarth Environmental had a stand there, he started talking to them, and decided that it would be beneficial to both companies to set up a contract.
Canale comments: "I am always trying to find ways to recycle and change methods so they become more sustainable, even at home I now have solar panels for my main power source. When I saw Howarth Environmental Ltd at Greenbuild I wanted to find out more so I had a chat with them."
He is enthusiastic about the benefits of the contract: "Now we have a way of recycling our wood waste into a renewable energy source, it works out cheaper for the company and is even better for the environment"
The initiative shows Astro Exhibitions' commitment to helping the environment, and also helps to give clients information about the company's ethos, that they recycle wherever possible. It also means that less greenhouse gas is generated, as per the requirements of the Kyoto Protocol. The wood waste given to Howarth will be used as Biomass fuel for boilers.
Astro Exhibitions will also continue donations of waste wood to the local community and schools. However, thanks to this new initiative, the majority of the waste will go to Howarth Environmental Ltd.
