Facebook And LinkedIn Beef Up International Security
Social Networking giants, Facebook and LinkedIn have decided to up their international privacy for the protection of their consumers' data.
Online, July 13, 2012 (Newswire.com) - After the Irish regulator's visit to Facebook and LinkedIn's Ireland office, both the groups have decided to tighten their international security for the protection of the consumer data, said the deputy Data Protection Commissioner. He said, after the recent incident of LinkedIn's password security infringement, it has become complicated for the web companies as well as for the regulators to protect the existing data of the consumers. Hence, it is important that the companies should adapt to certain severe security policies that can protect the data of their international clients effectively.
During the recent years, Ireland has become one of the growing Information Technology hubs with all the leading web giants choosing to open their offices in the region. Recently, Google has set up their European headquarter in Ireland, while Facebook's Ireland office consists of approx. four hundred employees handling clients across the world except that of Canada and United States ,and nine hundred million users.
Reports say that Facebook has agreed to strengthen its security protection during the month of December 2011, especially for its users residing outside Northern part of America after Gary Davies ,the Irish deputy Data Protection Commissioner/ regulator found its policies too complex to understand.
Davies said that now these companies, Facebook and LinkedIn have decided to re-build and strengthen their privacy policy in Ireland by inviting experts from the US, who had led the team in the past. He added that, LinkedIn too has appointed a key executive for its Dublin headquarters, so that it increases the security check of its international clients.
According to Davies, as US based web heavyweight like Google, Facebook and LinkedIn have succeeded in making significant European presence in Ireland for data protection regulation, other major companies like Microsoft, Twitter and Apple too should mull over the idea of expanding their offices in this region for a tight security concern.
