Facebook Rolls Out Security Tips For Its Users

Facebook rolls out certain security tips for its users so as to guide them to protect their accounts in case of a security breach and has asked for their cell numbers, so that Facebook can send them new passwords in case of such misfortune.

With the news of LinkedIn and e Harmony's password leakage jolting a large number of social networking users, Facebook wants to leave no stone unturned in educating its users against the debacle as a preventive measure. Hence since Thursday, Facebook has started rolling out security guidelines above users' homepages that includes links to information related to secure browsing, scams, advance security tips, videos on keeping safety on the social network, etc.

The link also highlights security updates from its official page, where the users are educated on the process as how to discover a scam, and on the ways of picking a unique and distinct password. According to one of the engineers of Facebook, most of the people cannot access their account by falling prey to a scam.

However, as a step of playing safe on Facebook, the website has prompted its users to provide their cell numbers so that the website can send the users with an alternative password via text message in replacement of the current one in case of a security breach. Facebook suggested that the users should always have distinct Facebook passwords from that of their e-mail account.

Although, the network has not mentioned about any harmful software in its security information, yet it declared that this step of Facebook has helped the network to eradicate the distribution of certain malicious content that were publicized by some spurious online advertisements. The feature is expected to be visible to all its users in next couple of days, revealed by a source.

Earlier this year, the company also unveiled a set of new security features recently for its Smartphone enabling the Smartphone users to confirm their Facebook account login from a new device. It also facilitated the users to report a piece of inappropriate content directly to Facebook from their mobile devices, and lastly, they can lock their accounts and reset password directly from their Smart phones.
