Factory projects get a head start with CAD Schroer and CEL International

Factory owner/operators, system integrators, engineering services and machinery providers learn about integrated 3D factory layout and visualisation at Total 2010

Cambridge, UK - 23 June 2010: Engineering and capital project managers from food, pharma and FMCG flocked to the NEC to source processing and packaging solutions. They also found a team of dedicated software and project engineers ready to help with factory layout challenges.

Engineering solutions provider CAD Schroer and project management expert CEL International (a member of the global engineering and environmental consultancy WSP Group) were on hand at Total Processing & Packaging 2010 to help solve the challenges posed as processing companies or their service providers plan to move or expand factories, trying to combine existing with new machinery in busy spaces.

"We had an excellent response from old contacts and new faces," says CAD Schroer's Technical Sales Manager Bill Wilkins. "Anyone involved in planning new process lines or refurbishing a busy factory with lots of mechanical content and expensive handling equipment understands the challenges of spatial design, and is looking for the best solution."

Product Line Manager Mark Simpson agrees, "There are so many things to consider: Firstly, how do you create layouts that offer accurate costings and BOMs and are easy to change as requirements change (as they always do, whether your customers are internal or external). Secondly, how do you ensure that everything fits optimally into existing or new spaces; designs need to take into consideration clashes between equipment and services, for example, but also safety or operating spaces around equipment, which has to be captured for the long term. Thirdly, can you visualise your design in order to communicate plans to everyone involved in a project? Finally, does your system supply all the engineering data necessary for procurement and construction, and does it work with other systems and CAD formats? Needless to say, we cover all of these areas."

The team's offering ranged from integrated 2D to 3D factory layout software for in-house design departments to design and delivery of a factory model or even comprehensive project management and construction services.
