Fairchild Semiconductor's Integrated USB Switch Reduces Space and Optimizes Mobile Designs
Online, June 8, 2010 (Newswire.com) - SAN JOSE, Calif. - June 8, 2010 - Focusing on analog and power functions that enhance user satisfaction and market success, Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) offers mobile handset designers an auto-selecting Hi-Speed USB switch with an integrated cap-free headphone audio amplifier. The FSA2000 is an industry first, and reduces component count, board space and BOM cost.
Fairchild, a mobile technology leader with a broad portfolio of analog and power IP, leveraged its system-level expertise in USB switches and audio headphone amplifiers to develop an innovative solution ideal for 3G cell phones, as well as netbooks and portable MP3/MP4 media players.
Current solutions rely on the use of several discrete components such as a USB switch, two large 220µF capacitors and an external headphone amplifier. Through integration, the FSA2000 eliminates these additional components, saving board space and BOM costs. This device is a USB 2.0 Full Speed (FS) and Hi-Speed (HS) compliant switch that integrates a class AB cap-free headphone amplifier.
The FSA2000 also has the capability to auto-switch to USB when VBUS is present. During this process, it does not need to power-up the headphone amplifier, saving power and conserving device battery life.
The FSA2000 is part of a comprehensive portfolio of Fairchild's USB solutions. These switches are ideal for USB port isolation, connector sharing and signal multiplexing. These solutions are often used to share or route USB ports through implementing advanced detection techniques. The switches are compliant with USB2.0 FS/HS with bandwidths in excess of 720MHz.
