Online, July 2, 2010 (Newswire.com) - One day after Nathan's crowns its 2010 hot dog eating champion, Farrell's will launch its final week of qualifying for speedy ice cream eating. The current qualifying standings show the fastest time of 30 seconds has been turned in for finishing the 3-scoop sundae with chocolate, strawberry and pineapple topping then piled high with whipped cream. Can someone in Southern California do it faster? Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour wants to know and through July 11 is taking entries for its first ever, first annual Splendiferously Superiffic Summer Spectacular Ice Cream Challenge. Eaters can register and compete at the Farrell's locations at the Mission Viejo Mall or in Santa Clarita at 21516 Golden Triangle Road.
The contest is seeking to identify the 8 fastest men, women and 4-person teams from these regional qualifying competitions who will advance to the July 18 championship finals at Farrell's in Mission Viejo. At the finals, individual participants will need to step up their game by eating the Farrell's Pig's Trough, a traditional banana split times two; two scoops each of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry and double helpings of chocolate, pineapple and strawberry toppings. Meanwhile, the fastest four person teams will need to employ special teamwork techniques to complete the world famous Farrell's Zoo, a giant bowl that features four flavors of ice cream, three fruit flavor sherbets, four toppings, whipped cream, cherries, bananas, and of course, the zoo animals and decorations that the participants must eat around to finish.
The cost of participation is $20 which gets the participant a 3-scoop sundae, a limited edition super special Farrell's Ice Cream Challenge shirt and a $5 coupon*. Proceeds from the competition will benefit Children's Hospital of Orange County and Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation. Sponsors of the event include Studio Three Sixty Marketing, Advantage Mailing, K1 Speed, Bergstroms Childrens Stores, Hobo Soul Productions, Fuller Street Productions and Coca-Cola.
FarrellsUSA.com has details and rules for the contest that is open to adults 16 and over.
