Fashion Show Raises Funds for At-Risk Youth
The Clearwater Community Volunteers (CCV) raised more than $20,000 at 13th annual Fashions with Flair, a fashion show at the Historic Fort Harrison, the international Church of Scientology religious retreat in downtown Clearwater, Florida. The funds raised by CCV will benefit the Leonard Johnson Foundation and Pinellas Sheriff's Police Athletic League.
Clearwater, Florida, September 21, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Some 300 community leaders gathered at the Fort Harrison in Clearwater September 17 for an afternoon of friendship, great food, and fashion at the 13th annual Fashions with Flair—a fashion show that raises funds for Pinellas County charities. Following a three-course luncheon prepared by the Fort Harrison’s award-winning chefs, the two charities benefiting from the fundraiser spoke about their goals, programs and the difference they are making in the lives of children:
- Pinellas County Sheriff’s Police Athletic League opened its doors in 2001. PAL provides tutoring, mentoring and sports activities at the PAL Sports Complex, and the PAL Connection Center in mid-Pinellas County, serving 125 kids each day.
- Leonard Johnson Foundation, established in 2015 by professional football player Leonard Johnson and his mother, Schenique Harris, a sheriff detention deputy and business owner.
Fashions with Flair was hosted by the Church of Scientology Clearwater Community Volunteers, who also produce the Easter egg hunt in Coachman Park and the city’s annual 3-week Winter Wonderland holiday family festival.
Public Affairs Director for the Church of Scientology Flag Service Organization Lisa Mansell spoke of the Church’s commitment to helping youth. She quoted author, humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard: “Today’s children will become tomorrow’s civilization. They need love and help to make it.”
“CCV is helping children make it,” Mansell said.
After the presentations, eight prominent Tampa Bay women “hit the runways,” wearing fashions courtesy of Nikki’s Glitz and Glam Boutique of Palm Harbor.
Modeling were:
- Margaret Word Burnside, Executive Editor, Tampa Bay Magazine
- Schenique Harris of the Leonard Johnson Foundation
