Feet and Friends Fighting Colon Cancer

Online, March 18, 2012 (Newswire.com) - American Cancer Society's second annual "Feet and Friends Fighting Colon Cancer" event takes place on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Hudson Mills Metro Park, in Dexter, MI. There will be a 5k run/walk and an 8k run. All ages and skill levels are welcome to participate and all proceeds from the race will be directed solely to colon cancer awareness, prevention and finding a cure.

Colon cancer is the second leading causes of cancer death in men and women in the United States. The funds raised will help spread the important message of how testing can stop colon cancer before it starts or find it early to start successful treatment. Thanks to improvements in prevention, early detection and treatment, more than a million people in the U.S. count themselves as survivors.

"Feet and Friends Fighting Colon Cancer" was founded by Karen Lewis of Brighton, MI, and Susan Snyder of Ann Arbor, MI - two friends who are also colon cancer survivors. The first event in 2011 raised more than $60,000. Part of the proceeds from that event has been invested in a colon cancer screening awareness campaign called "Don't You Want to Know?" that will be promoted on billboards and buses around Washtenaw County during March of this year.

Entry fee is $25 per person through April 1, $30 per person April 2-April 20, and $35 on race day (April 21). Registration fee includes a specially designed tech shirt.

The event offers many opportunities for participation, from volunteering, to organizing a team, to running the race solo - all of these things help bring the fight against cancer directly to the community.

Handmade pottery awards by local Ann Arbor potter, Stan Baker of Highers Pottery, will be presented not only to the overall and age group winners in the 5k and 8k events, but also to the team with most participants, team that raises the most contributions, team with most colon cancer survivors, and the individual that raises the most contributions.
