Bensenville, IL - April 28, 2010 - Today Feller Business Solutions partnered with Veolia ES Technical Solutions, L.L.C. to introduce one of the area's first fluorescent lamp and ballast recycling service to provide consumers and businesses with a safe and environmentally friendly method for disposing of spent mercury laden fluorescent lamps. This new development will make it easier than ever for consumers to recycle fluorescent lamps and ballasts.

"The average fluorescent lamp can contain enough mercury to contaminate 7,000 gallons of drinking water," stated Wendy Pike of Feller Business Solutions. "We feel that it is our responsibility to help protect our community and our environment."

Growing concerns over the detrimental effects of mercury in the environment have made recycling mercury-bearing lamps a hot topic. Mercury containing lamps are much more energy efficient than non mercury containing lamps. However, because they contain small amounts of mercury, it is essential that they be properly recycled.

An estimated 550 million fluorescent lamps are taken out of service every year, the bulk of which are discarded in local landfills, and more than 90 percent of all fluorescent lamps are used in office buildings. However, the majority of commercial properties are not recycling their lamps.
