Fidelity Communications Honored as Pilot Company in United Way Effort

Fidelity Communications has been named a pilot company for the 2016 Franklin County Area United Way fundraising campaign by the county United Way’s board of directors.

Fidelity is one of five area employers chosen for the honor based on its family-oriented values, Fidelity Benefits Manager Michelle Williamson said. Also selected were the Four Rivers Area Family YMCA, Meramec Valley R-III School District, Enduro Binders and United Bank of Union.

As part of the campaign, Fidelity launched an effort to raise of minimum of $500 in employee contributions and match that amount with a corporate donation. But employees came through with $2,358 in donations. A $500 employer match brought the grand total to $2,858.

The Franklin County Area United Way (FCAUW) provides funding to 54 agencies and programs in the county, affecting nearly 70,000 people in 2015. Support allocated to all communities totaled $900,000 in 2015, with $104,158 going to Sullivan, affecting almost 5,000 residents.

Sullivan agencies and programs benefitting included the Empac Group Sheltered Workshop, Meramec Community Mission, Sullivan Emergency Assistance Fund, Older Adults Transportation Service (OATS), Society of Vincent De Paul, the Sullivan Senior Center, local 4-H and FFA chapters, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and CASA.

Sullivan residents were also served by United Way-supported agencies in other Franklin County communities, including the Crider Health Center, Franklin County Transportation, Catholic Family Services, Pregnancy Assistance Service, and VOYCE long term care.

FCAUW provides funding for programs that strengthen families, nurture and protect children and youth, assist the elderly and disabled, and provide emergency services.

“I’m excited about the opportunity we have to do even more for the community where we live and work,” said Michelle Williamson, Fidelity Benefits Manager, in kicking off the company donation effort. She noted that 83 cents of every dollar donated goes directly back to the community.

“Their overhead is very low,” she said. “The funds stay local. Now that I’m aware of what the United Way does, I see it all over town, like the Empac van providing transportation for its workers. Giving is a great way to show how much we care about our community.”
