Financial Education Benefits Center Encourages Good Dental Habits With Upcoming Dental Care Benefit

Dental care for many Americans is often too difficult to come by, and high costs are a big barrier to access. Plus a lack of basic dental care can lead to dental issues that are much harder to fix as they progress. While lawmakers and the healthcare industry debate ways to expand dental care, regular folks could use a break. Financial Education Benefits Center (FEBC), a membership benefits company, will be offering a new suite of health and wellness benefits, including discounts on dental care for eligible members in order to make dental care easier.

“Going to the dentist is not always easy, but we believe that our upcoming benefit will make things a bit easier,” said Jennifer Martinez, Manager at FEBC. “A discount on some much-needed care can make the whole experience better.”

Despite a great need for dental care, many millions of Americans don’t have the access that they need. Lack of access comes in the form of prohibitive costs and a shortage of available professionals. Tens of millions of Americans live in “dental shortage areas,” and while many may rely on Medicaid to cover or offset the costs of dental care, only a third of dentists accept Medicaid. Without assistance, many Americans may avoid going to the dentist simply because it costs too much.

But avoiding care can just exacerbate simple problems, like a cavity that eventually becomes an infection that requires root canal treatment. This in mind, the FEBC benefit assists with both preventative care and treatments for immediate issues. Users of the dental benefit can receive discounts on services including exams, X-rays, cleanings, fillings, crowns, root canal treatments, periodontal maintenance, and other treatments.

FEBC members who want to use this benefit will simply visit a participating provider and present their membership card when payment for services is due to receive a discount on eligible services. Since this benefit is not insurance, the benefit could be used instead of insurance or, in some cases, combined with insurance.

FEBC also encourages everyone to engage in good oral health habits in between visits to the dentist, like daily brushing, flossing, minimizing food and drink that are harmful to teeth, and staying alert for symptoms of dental issues like persistent pain.

“We’re hoping this dental benefit will simplify going to the dentist for the FEBC members who decide to use it,” said Martinez. “If we help someone get the care they need a little quicker, or for less money, that’s a great feeling.”
