Excess All Areas to produce the 1st Annual London Cabaret Awards.

Cabaret Agency and producers Excess All Areas will produce the capital's first ever celebration of the growing cabaret scene and honour the very best of its performers, promoters and supporters in a lavish event on Thursday 16th February 2012.

In recent years London's cabaret scene has enjoyed a boom unprecedented since the days of music hall, with underground venues opening throughout the city, burlesque shows reaching the West End and cabaret work being embraced by institutions from the V&A and National Portrait Gallery to the Royal Opera House and the Old Vic, not to mention Britain's Got Talent and the Glastonbury festival.

An independent judging panel will decide the nominees (both long-list and short-list) for eleven awards plus a special 'lifetime achievement' award.

The panel consists of Ben Walters (Cabaret editor, Time Out, the only major publication with regular cabaret coverage), Jayne Hardy (agent , formerly with Whoopee, the cradle of the retro/burlesque revival), Catia Ciarico (producer of Magic Night and entertainment booker for the RVT, London's home of queer performance), Alexander Parsonage (producer, Finger in the Pie, pioneers in linking cabaret with theatre and circus) and Lisa Lee (Performer, Producer at Rude Grrl, and programmer at Bistrotheque, the hub of east London's alt-drag and alternative performance renaissance).

Leading variety entertainment specialists Excess All Areas is headed by Paul L Martin, who has dedicated 21 years to the art of cabaret having performed, taught, produced, promoted and written on the genre.

On 5th November the website http://www.londoncabaretawards.co.uk will go live and the long-list of nominations for each category will be published. On 5th January, this list will be whittled down to just 3 nominees for each category, who will be invited to the ceremony on The Battersea Barge.

Tickets to the public for this event will be very limited as our focus is to celebrate and promote the hard work done in the past decade to help build our fantastic and diverse cabaret scene in London.
