First Business Summit Created for Women at Midlife - 19 Entrepreneurs Share Strategies for Starting a Business 40+
Big Timber, MT, November 2, 2015 (Newswire.com) - The Essential Business Startup Secrets for Women Over Forty Virtual Summit took place on October 20-23 and taught women how to create businesses that not only offer financial security but also help them to build a legacy that matters. Designed specifically for women over forty, the virtual summit addressed the unique challenges, experiences, and desires of women in the later stage of life. Nineteen successful entrepreneurs shared their expertise on topics ranging from building a tribe online, the legalities of brand building, crowd funding, flexible retirement and location independent businesses, to health and creating purpose-driven businesses.
The recent national conversation about gender equality has revealed much of what many women already know: in a still largely patriarchal business world, it is often not a level playing field for women. Women over forty experience different challenges in starting a business, in addition to those faced by women in general, such as equal access to funding. [1] Women in this age group often also face age bias when it comes to obtaining loans. [2]
Tabby Biddle, one of the summit speakers, believes that women can find success by capitalizing on feminine wisdom instead of trying to mimic the behaviors of their male peers. “By creating a marriage between our intellect and our feminine voice, which is found in the body,” she explained, “women can begin to shift the business world to a more equal landscape, where male and feminine leadership traits are recognized.”
The rest of the Summit speakers echoed her thoughts, although the variety of entrepreneurs meant that there was a helpful blend of practical advice and encouragement. The Summit also addressed these types of issues by including information on alternative funding methods, such as crowd funding, and other tips targeted specifically for women entrepreneurs over forty.
Women at this stage bring a myriad of skills and experiences to their business venture that a younger person just doesn’t have,” said summit speaker, Teresa Meares, Chair Elect of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). “With the fastest rate of entrepreneurship in the last decade occurring in the 50-65 age group[3], we’re happy to see resources like this Summit being created that address the unique considerations and concerns of these women.”
Much of the Summit was also dedicated to helping women to switch their mindset around starting their own businesses. Recognizing that many women struggle to sell themselves, Lisa Sasevich, named extraordinary Entrepreneur of the Year by Women Online Magazine, encouraged attendees to start seeing selling their services as a moral obligation. In conversation with Mary Collier, Lisa explained, “Making an irresistible offer helps your audience to make the leap from a piece of interesting information to a real transformation.”
The summit was hosted by Mary F. Collier, a business coach, best-selling author, and entrepreneur, who helps women at midlife to create lives and businesses that light their fire and feed their souls. Over the four day period, she engaged in 18 conversations with other entrepreneurs who provided their unique aspect and personal strategies for creating thriving, purpose and passion based businesses.
“After reaching the pinnacle of what I thought was professional success, I realized that I wasn’t happy,” said Mary F. Collier. “I know that many women experience something similar in the second half of life and they, like me, don’t know how to start pursuing their delayed dreams. I created this virtual summit so that women could find all the inspiration, strategies, and advice they need in one place to create a business doing what they love.”
Although the summit has already taken place, it is still possible to access the recordings of all 18 interviews, in addition to special bonuses and gifts. These can be found by visiting: http://startupsecretsforwomen.com.
The summit was sponsored in part by Tomoson.com and in partnership with, The Unstoppable Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing education and sustainability to people in developing nations.
