First Ever Solar Panel Charging Stations In The Caribbean for Electric Vehicles (EV)

John Felder, CEO of Cayman Automotive announced the opening of the First Solar Panel Charging Stations for Electric vehicles in the Caribbean last week. Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands

John Felder, CEO of Cayman Automotive Leasing and Marketing Ltd, announced the opening of the first Solar Panel Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles (EV) on Thursday the 23rd June 2011 in George Town, Grand Cayman.
Governor's Square along West Bay Road is the first of 12 locations in the Cayman Islands to receive the solar panel charging stations. The first prototype station will have two or more parking spaces and is expected to be fully functional by the end of this year.
This historic event symbolises the Cayman Islands commitment for creating renewable and sustainable energy, and also represents a turning point in the island's dependence on fossil fuels. The solar power charging stations for EV will generate electricity using pollution-free solar cells thereby reducing the carbon emissions to zero.
The solar panel charging stations for EV will make the Cayman Islands cleaner and greener, providing EV owners the convenience to drive island-wide, and recharge their electric car at any of the 12 charging stations, while reducing their carbon footprint.
"The charging stations will also help to boost local businesses that have them on their premises" Mr Felder said, "when you take your electric car to Camana Bay or Kaibo, Governors Square or Fosters Food fair, you are also going to spend money while your EV is being charged."
The Solar Panel Charging Stations for EV will use a modular design of solar panels built as a canopy above parking spaces of a vehicle-charging device, or an EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) which encompasses a communications and control system, data collection equipment, a transformer and connection to the local CUC power grid.
Cayman Automotive is also the first authorised dealer for EV in the Caribbean, and has recently introduced the ZENN, the Wheego Life, and Tazzari sport vehicles, which are 100 per cent electric powered.
Mr Felder confirmed that the full line-up of the Caribbean's first 100 per cent electric trucks and vans will be introduced later this year. He also said that the first lucky 10 customers will receive NO-COST charging stations.
