First State Fights - 'Total Disregard' MMA Event is a Hit
Online, December 14, 2009 (Newswire.com) - Dover, DE. (14 December 2009)-Delaware State University's Memorial Hall in Dover, DE, played stage to intense combat and roaring crowds during "Total Disregard," the first event that the state's new MMA promotions company, Sibling Rivalry, has brought to Delaware. The history-making show featured fighters from across Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey. Logan Estep won against Joey Coleman in the main event of the evening, winning the super light heavyweight championship.
Sibling Rivalry considers its MMA events as a means of better serving the sport and its supporters. "We knew by involving good fight camps, setting good matches and catering to our fighters that the event would be a huge success. We have received great reviews and the one question lingers, when is the next one, and that's what we were hoping for as a result," say co-promoters and siblings, Howard Steele and Linda Webb-Jenkins.
While the Delaware state commission ruled against any ground and pound in the fights, spectators agreed that this 11-bout amateur fight card did not disappoint, featuring a submission grappling match and a title fight. Several quick knock-outs at the beginning of the night gave way to longer and more technical fights as the night drew on, and audience excitement heightened in anticipation of the title fight.
Special guest referee, Jon "Man of Faith" Murphy, known nationally for his fights on Elite XC and MTV's "Bully Beatdown," called the fights. Spectators had the opportunity to peruse many vendors, including SFX, Policy, Never Tap Out, Fat Lip Fight Wear.
Their premiere event proved popular among the Delaware crowd. Cage-side seats sold out ahead of time, but spectators could purchase general admission tickets at the door for $40. Sibling Rivalry Promotions plans to hold its next MMA event, Hostile Intentions, some time in March 2010. This will be the first of six events scheduled for 2010.
