Online, June 6, 2010 (Newswire.com) - For Immediate Release!
Five former employees of Angeles National Golf Course and Angeles National Restaurant Service filed lawsuits last week. Angeles National Golf Club is a pricey PGA-approved course that is allegedly owned by Japanese billionaire, Minora Isutani's company, Cosmo World.
Documents filed June 3 and 4, 2010, in Los Angeles Superior Court, allege that Angeles National Golf Course harbored an environment of sexual and racial harassment, discrimination, and frequently required employees to work without compensation. The Plaintiffs in the lawsuits include both hourly workers and salaried managers.
Two females who worked as "snack bar" employees claim they were fired after complaining that the golf course had built the counter low, and in a manner that required them to bend over when serving customers. A camera, installed in the snack bar behind the workers, was then aimed at their "behinds" as the females worked. And, live images of the female workers' posteriors were then broadcast throughout the golf club onto big-screen TVs. Employees who complained were fired.
Another former employee, states she was subjected to harassment after reporting that she had been sexually assaulted while serving drinks on a remote area of the golf course. Despite being assured that her "incident report" would be kept private, it was later displayed in the "Pro Shop" for public viewing. And, when the employee complained, her schedule was reduced to one shift every two weeks.
According to legal documents filed a the Los Angeles Superior Court, supervisors who stood up for the rights of their subordinate employees were subjected to retaliation, demotion, and/or termination. One young professional golfer, who worked as a "Range Manager," claims he was terminated after he complained that employees of Angeles National were being subjected to unlawful workplace conditions.
Documents filed with the court also allege that Angeles National Golf Club engaged in discrimination against workers who were not born in Japan and also fired employees who were injured at work. More lawsuits are expected to be filed next week.
