Flippin' NORA. Who's Sorry Now?

The finalists for the inaugural national Wooden NORA award, which recognises the web site or recruitment service that has disappointed jobseekers the most in the last 12 months, have been announced.

The finalists for the inaugural national Wooden NORA award, which recognises the web site or recruitment service that has disappointed jobseekers the most in the last 12 months, have been announced. Some of the best known organisations and companies in the world appear on the list of shame, and the winner of the unsought trophy will be named at the glittering National Online Recruitment Awards (NORAs) ceremony in London on 12 November 2013.

Facebook SocialJobs, Yo! Sushi, LinkedIn Jobs, CraigsList and the £15 million Universal JobMatch service, which is offered through the Government Gateway, have all made it through as finalists. Like the other thirteen awards categories being presented on the night, (but which are accolades for excellence), nominations for awards come exclusively from jobseekers.

"We decided to introduce the Wooden Nora for this year not only as it is the thirteenth year of the NORAs, which is considered unlucky for some, but as there has been so much hype surrounding many big budget projects that ultimately fell flat. Jobseekers have responded in their tens of thousands to tell us from their perspective which of these have over-promised, under-delivered, and disappointed them the most," explained Stephen O'Donnell, Founder and Chairman of the NORAs, and a recruitment industry veteran.

"Whilst there is an element of fun to adding this award, we are not looking to scapegoat any particular website, but rather to highlight the ways in which some otherwise professional recruitment services seem to go out of their way to thwart and frustrate jobseekers."

Launched in 2001, the National Online Recruitment Awards is the only recruitment industry event where winners are nominated by jobseekers. This year there was a record 730 individual recruitment websites nominated. Two judging panels of independent industry experts have the task of whittling down the nominations to finalists and winners stages.

The full list of finalists in all categories is available here: http://norauk.com/finalists-2013/. Winners, and losers, will find out the results at the Award Ceremony being held at the exclusive West End venue, Sway London, in Covent Garden on Tuesday 12nd November.
