Near 15% growth in exhibitor numbers for Intersec 2012

Safety and security continue to be high priority topics worldwide, given the current prevailing uncertainties facing a large number of nations across the globe.

This is important for the markets of the Middle East too resulting in growing interest in enhanced safety and security measures particularly in homeland security and policing and new developments in commercial security. These trends have played a part in the growth and development of Intersec, the region's premier safety, security, fire protection and policing networking event which has been taking place in this region for 14 years and has now also expanded to have a global footprint.

Apart from being a magnet for trade buyers, security services, police forces, safety and security consultants, government officials and professionals, Intersec has grown to be the authoritative meeting and networking event for the regional industry, thanks to the enormous support from government and security authorities. The event has gained from the continued support of the UAE Civil Defence, Dubai Police General HQ and Dubai Police Academy throughout the years.

Having grown from strength to strength through the years, Intersec 2012, which will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from January 15 to 17, is expected to enjoy a near 15% growth in terms of the number of exhibitors participating.

"Intersec has had its finger on the pulse of the regional industry through the years, and has been growing and maturing along with the rapidly-developing region," said Ahmed Pauwels, CEO of organiser Epoc Messe Frankfurt. "As governments around the region emphasise stability and safety as a foundation for continued economic growth and social progress, we have seen leading international players come forward to meet the particular needs of this market."

"We have noticed a marked increase in interest from security agencies and police in the region in the latest homeland security and policing methods and systems. Commercial Security remains one of the most popular segments at Intersec, which this year continues to expand in scope and reach," he added.

Globally, the homeland security market is growing exponentially, as security forces turn to the latest technologies to combat more sophisticated criminals. With the global market estimated to be worth a stunning $2.7 trillion by 2020, manufacturers and suppliers of security and policing equipment and systems are increasingly looking at making inroads into lucrative markets of the Middle East, where homeland security is gaining high prominence. *

As a result, Intersec will feature a dedicated hall for Homeland Security and Policing, for the first time in its 2012 edition taking place next week. This will also ensure ease of access to these particular exhibits for trade visitors and buyers.

In the Commercial Security section of the event alone, there are 500 exhibitors, confirming that Commercial Security remains the largest segment of the region's premier safety and security event. This field is high on the agenda for commercial and government establishments across the region and generates increasing demand for safety screening, access and egress controls, perimeter and premises monitoring systems as well as network access control and safety systems. Intersec overall also features 13 dedicated country pavilions - another indication of the exhibition's reach.

Also popular amongst the industry professionals attending Intersec is the comprehensive programme of seminars and conferences running alongside the trade event. Featuring a wide range of international and regional experts, the programme includes a series of workshops, lectures and interactive discussions about the current trends and challenges facing the industries worldwide.

The calendar of conferences at this year's Intersec includes the 1st Global Network Conference on Emergency Medicine, the Maritime Security Summit, the Commercial Security Summit; a workshop on Emergency Planning for the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Sectors and a Fire Systems Integrity Assurance workshop.

The Emergency Medicine conference is being organised for the first time in the region and is endorsed by the European Society for Emergency Medicine (EuSEM). The conference is a networking platform for emergency medicine professionals, offering academic and scientific exchange opportunities for those engaged in all aspects of emergency medical care and disaster planning, as well as those involved in training of emergency medical staff.

Other features at Intersec include the popular Outdoor Demo area featuring a range of tactical rescues and close combat operations showcasing interactive scenarios across the fields of rescue, counter terror and law enforcement.

The UAE International FireFit Championship returns for the third edition this year. The competition is a tough test of strength and determination, featuring more than 100 participants drawn from the cream of professional fire fighting & emergency rescue teams in the Middle East, Europe, Asia and America.
