For Parents In The Midst Of A Separation Or Divorce, The Upper Room, A Family Resource Center, Offers Seminars On Co-Parenting

Crossroads of Parenting and Divorce, a new course available at The Upper Room, provides strategies on staying child-centered

Separation and divorce takes on a toll on parents and children alike. For any parent in the Greater Derry Community that is separated, divorcing, or divorced, Crossroads of Parenting and Divorce, or "Crossroads," equips parents with the tools necessary to focus on their children's needs during the difficult family transition.

Crossroads is an Active Parenting seminar taught by experienced and certified parenting instructors, and demonstrates common co-parenting challenges and solutions. Specifically, parents will learn how to:

• Keep children out of the middle
• Allow children to love both parents
• Work on their own recovery
• Develop new communication skills
• Create a positive new relationship as co-parents

The course provides information through facilitator-lead instruction, interactive dialogue, DVDs shown during class time, and tangible parent guides containing supplementary information and plans.

"Crossroads is a valuable asset to local families," added Brenda Guggisberg, Crossroads Facilitator. "Divorce is an extremely turbulent time, and it's important for parents to not only recognize its effect on their children, but also learn strategies in order to minimize the adverse consequences. Even if both parents are unable to attend, our lesson plans are designed, and have been proven, to empower attendees with the skills necessary for effective co-parenting."

Crossroads is offered on Monday nights from April 29 through June 3, 2013. All sessions will be held at The Upper Room, a Family Resource Center at 36 Tsienneto Road, Derry, NH 03038. Sessions run from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm. There is a $65 registration and book fee required. To learn more, or to register, contact Brenda Guggisberg at 603-437-8477 x 18.

The Upper Room also offers parent education classes and support groups specially targeted for parents of 1-4 year olds, 5-12 year olds, and teenagers. Positive Parenting seminars are also available, providing separate workshops on designated topics such as parenting basics and your right as a parent, teaching refusal skills to teenagers, strategies to make summer breaks fun and entertaining for your child, and communication skills.
