Ford Plans To Increase Electric Vehicle Presence With 5 Electric Cars By 2013

Electric powered and hybrid vehicles will become much more common at dealership like Springfield Ford Lincoln with Ford introducing 5 new electrified cars for 2013.

Recently, Ford has shown great interest in increasing their presence in the world of electric vehicles. The Detroit automaker released plans to invest $135 million to further develop new hybrid and electric technology. They will be bringing battery testing capabilities in-house so they no longer have to rely on third-party suppliers. Ford has also confirmed its intent to convert a 285,000 square-foot research and development center in Dearborn, MI to focus primarily on hybrid and electric technology along with battery technology. All of these plans are intended to increase the development of hybrid and electric vehicles by nearly 25 percent and to begin the manufacturing of 5 new electrified vehicles by the end of 2012.

Vehicles that Ford already has plans for as a part of this move include 5 hybrid and electric cars that will certainly help to increase the automaker's fleet fuel economy. Already in production since late 2011, the Ford Focus Electric is currently America's most fuel-efficient compact car. This EV gets an MPG equivalence of 110 MPG in the city and features a four hour charge time with the use of a 240-volt charger. The C-Max Hybrid has already been EPA-certified to deliver 47 miles-per-gallon both in the city and on the highway for a combined 47 MPG. This is a full 3 MPG better than the Prius V and with a starting price of around $1,300 less. The C-Max Energi, the plug-in hybrid version of the C-Max, is expected to return an MPG equivalent that is three times better than the Prius Plug-In while in EV mode. A gasoline powered range extender gives the C-Max Energi a total range of 550 miles at 95 MPG. The all-new Fusion Hybrid coming this Fall is expected to return 47 MPG, 5 better than the Toyota Camry Hybrid. The Fusion Energi Plug-In Hybrid, which should begin production by the end of 2012, is expected to become the world's most fuel-efficient midsized car.
