Law enforcement agencies have been looking for ways to minimize fuel costs, and Terry's Ford of Peotone has announced that the Ford Motor Company is assisting that effort by producing a "special service police" sedan. The vehicle will feature a 2.0L EcoBoost engine and is likely to deliver best-in-class fuel economy. It is expected that the EPA fuel economy certification for this vehicle will take place this December.

Even with this new EcoBoost engine, which is similar to the one that is available in the 2014 Ford Taurus, the new police vehicles will still meet the requirements and needs of law enforcement agencies. It is believed that the special service police sedan will get an estimated 30 mpg or better on the highway from the EPA.

The difference in fuel efficiency is substantial compared to previous models. Its predecessor, a 4.6L V8 Crown Victoria, earned EPA estimates of 14 mpg in the city, 21 mpg for highway driving, and a combined rating of 17 mpg. If the new police sedan is driven 30,000 miles per year with gas prices at $3.65 per gallon, law enforcement agencies could save as much as $5,040.92 throughout the course of three years on each vehicle.
Along with the new 2.0L EcoBoost engine, agencies can select from among four different powertrain options. These powertrain choices include a V6 lineup that performs even better than previous V8 engines. A 3.5L V6 with front-wheel-drive, an all-wheel-drive 3.7L V6, and the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine with all-wheel-drive allow police to find the vehicle that best meets their individual needs.
To be able to offer best-in-class fuel economy, this new police sedan will also be equipped with Active Grille Shutters. This feature controls airflow for maximum balance between aerodynamics and engine cooling.
