Fordham University To Hold Symposium on Haiti

We have invited community leaders who will discuss Haiti's culture, as well as their needs and strengths in the wake of the earthquake to help create culturally competent advocacy, volunteerism, and program development.

National Association of Black Journalists co-founder to speak at Fordham University Haiti Symposium.

Feb. 16th, New York. Joel Dreyfuss, co-founder of the National Association of Black Journalists is slated to speak at the Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service symposium on Haiti "United for Haiti; Compassion In Action."

"The symposium is for anyone planning on providing services to Haitians either here or abroad. The speakers will introduce the audience to, and give them a better understanding of Haiti," explained event manage Jade de Saussure. "Education and discussion about Haiti's culture as well as their needs and strengths in the wake of this most recent tragedy will be a catalyst for continued support in the form of culturally competent advocacy, volunteerism and program development.

Taking place Saturday, February 27 from 7 to 10:30 pm at Church of St. Paul the Apostle (405 W 59th street, New York, NY 10023) Haitian-American Mr. Dreyfuss will be giving the symposium overview. Additional speakers at press time include:


Deputy Manhattan Borough President Rosemonde Pierre-Louis.

Bill White, Ambassador to the Council of Friends of FOKAL.

Dr. Jeff Gardere, Director of the Harlem Family Institute

Bishop Guy Sansaricq, Brooklyn Diocese Auxiliary Bishop and Co-founder of Haitian Americans United for Progress.
