Former Political Candidate Releases New Songs

Online, April 28, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Ward 7's Larry Pretlow, who is famously known for taking on Ward 8 Councilmember and former DC Mayor Marion Barry both in song and politics, has two new songs out.

Pretlow, who performs professionally as LaPret, wrote the song Like the Most to address personal issues surrounding a fall from fame as an up-and-coming outspoken youth advocate in the District.

He has also released a music video for the second new single Love Standby, a song that he first wrote in April 2011.

"Love Standby is new to my fans but not me, it's a testimony of my tribulations in love," says Pretlow.

Often criticized for his choice in campaign managers and his public rants on social media, Pretlow soon vanished from the scene after being defeated by Ward 8's Mary J. Cuthbert and Trayon White.

Pretlow is branded for running hyped and strange campaigns for election to neighborhood-themed seats, such as Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner, that often made national headlines.

There once were a handful of spam emails making their almost daily rounds throughout the District's Political arena, asserting sometimes extremely ridiculous claims about Pretlow and his endeavors.

Formerly mentored a democrat, the second District of Columbia Shadow U.S. Representative John Capozzi, Pretlow's Republican affiliation and Rap career has clearly hindered him in two nonpartisan elections.

Pretlow once asked Washington City Paper's Rend Smith to help him draw "the line between LaPret, the rapper and Larry T. Pretlow II, the [republican] political candidate."

"Two separate careers, two separate personas," says Pretlow.

Pretlow, 23, has since married Brittany Fenwick and are expecting their first child in August.

Here's the song, called 'Like the Most', which Pretlow describes as "a declaration of freedom against the stigmas of being different and unique, not like the most."
