 Mumbai, May 21st 2015: Fortis Hospital, Mulund, Mumbai, has received the Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation – the Gold Standard for hospitals across the globe for the fourth time running. The achievement underscores the Fortis Hospital’s commitment to high standard quality and patient safety that only a few hospitals in the country offer. Fortis Mulund has the unique distinction to become the first hospital in Mumbai to be four times and the second hospital in the country to be JCI accredited for the fourth time in a row.

The Joint Commission is a US-based non-profit organization. It accredits more than 20,000 healthcare organizations in the US. The JCI was set up in 1997 as an affiliate of The Joint Commission. The JCI grants accreditation to healthcare facilities in more than 60 countries after a rigorous evaluation of several parameters, including the quality of patient-care and patient-safety. The JCI accreditation is widely considered as a “seal of approval” by medical travelers seeking quality healthcare services. A JCI accreditation is valid for three years, following which the facility is reassessed. The recently revised JCI standards and more stringent and demanding compared to the previous editions.

JCI is a part of JCAHO, a non-profit organization that grants accreditations for quality standards, best practices and patient safety. The application process is voluntary, which therefore indicates the commitment of the organization to create an environment to be assessed.
