My Life Productions Ltd and Southwark Targeted Youth Support Service are holding a summer university programme for hard to reach young people in Southwark, South London. The young people will work on all aspects of filmmaking, Acting, Writing, Directing, Producing, Camera and Sound operation. Our Mentors are Fraser Ayres 'ADULTHOOD', Ed Gaughan 'SKELETONS', and KRIS DEEDIGAN 'HOLLYOAKS'.The project will take place in and around Peckham South London. The Project starts on the 2nd of August 2010 for 2 weeks.
We use film to engage some of the hardest to reach groups, such as Young offenders, Looked after Children, The homeless, Drug and alcohol abuse groups and young people involved with gangs. We use drama as a means to explore the relevant issues and to find positive solutions. The film making process gives people training in new skills, such as acting, directing, budget and time management, photography, sound design and engineering. Other benefits to our projects include building the participant's teamwork and communication skills as well as developing their self-esteem. We work closely with agencies such as Youth Offending teams, Youth service, The Home Office, Connexions and the Police to deliver films that are used as a means of consultation, education and expression.
The Police have stated that when our projects are in operation crime is reduced by 70%.
The local Multi-Plex in Peckham has always supported our projects by allowing us to screen the young people's film at their very own red carpet premier. They are pleased to contribute because they know these projects benefit the whole community.
