G24 Innovations Named As 'Pioneer' For New Global Sustainability Standard
Online, November 21, 2011 (Newswire.com) - G24 Innovations Limited, global technology leader in the recycling of light to electricity, today joins World Wildlife Fund, Deutsche Bank, Motorola Mobility and Lego as one of 15 WindMade™ Pioneers; businesses that have pledged to produce at least 25% of their overall power consumption from wind energy. Windmade™, the world's first wind power consumer label, was officially launched in New York today at an event co-hosted by the United Nations Global Compact.
Windmade™ will operate as a non-profit organisation, with Pioneers helping to bridge the gap between sustainable companies and consumers.
Robert Hertzberg, co-founder G24i, explains: "The Windmade™ label will help consumers think differently about the energy they consume which is something G24 Innovations has set out to do since 2006. Our advanced technology is designed to revolutionise the power consumption of everyday products.
"We have chosen to make our product with wind energy because we believe that you have to be green in process as well as products to be a truly sustainable business. We are proud to be a Windmade™ pioneer."
Having unveiled a 2.3MW wind turbine at its Cardiff manufacturing facility in the summer, G24i is the world's first company to produce renewable energy products using renewable energy. The installation will reduce site carbon emissions by more than 2,500 tonnes each year. G24i also runs a fleet of staff electric vehicles on the wind power it produces, whilst running several programmes to use the facility to educate and inspire local children with regards to sustainable living.
Following a turbulent time for the global solar industry - not least owing to the high-profile collapse of Solyndra - G24i is also keen to demonstrate that clean energy companies do not need to rely on government subsidy for survival.
Richard Costello, Chief Operating Officer, G24i, comments: "G24i's technology provides an affordable, sustainable alternative to battery power that far exceeds all others competitors. In doing so, we eliminate stand-by power; the 'phantom power' that the UK government estimates accounts for some 8% of all energy usage in the home and businesses.
"Because our solar technology is challenging product designers and consumers to think differently about power, we wanted to do so ourselves. By manufacturing solar cells with wind power, we hope to inspire a new generation of sustainable business."
