GCU - Greek Catholic Union Raises Funds for Breast Cancer Research and Support

Online, November 29, 2010 (Newswire.com) - BEAVER, PA - The Greek Catholic Union (GCU) recently participated for the first time on a national level in the yearly 'Lee National Denim Day' fundraiser sponsored by Lee Jeans. Support came from the GCU Home Office, as well as 8 other Lodges and Districts, who held local projects to raise funds for the cause. 'Lee National Denim Day' is geared towards funding research into breast cancer, creating awareness in the public, and providing support and education to victims of breast cancer and their families. Many members also showed their support and sent in individual contributions. "This is a new venture for us, to become involved in a national-level fundraising initiative sponsored by a well-known global company, as we generally do most of our charitable work on a local or regional level," states Fraternal Director, Christie Petty. "And I hope the success of this project bodes well for GCU to work on similar projects in the future. Finding a cure for breast cancer is truly a cause that our members are willing to support."

GCU encouraged their members to get involved by sending detailed information and local project ideas to their local Lodges and Districts, then promoted the event via their monthly eMagazine (http://www.gcuusa.com/emaghome.htm) as well as posting weekly updates on their Facebook Fan Page (http://www.facebook.com/gcu.greek.catholic.union). Petty feels the venture was a success as the total donation being made to the Lee Foundation equals $3,500. "Our members had the freedom to create their own projects, and we offered them customized advertising materials for their events, with help from the Denim Day website. While we are proud of this year's donations, we hope to surpass it next year, as we plan on making this an annual national event."
