GEA Westfalia Separator Survives the Worst of the Recession
GEA Westfalia's separation services are invaluable to the offshore oil industry, which is quite a result for a company that started out skimming milk.
Online, August 9, 2010 (Newswire.com) - (San Diego, CA)-In an interview with Energy Digital, GEA Westfalia's Offshore Manager, Jarle Flaata, has explained the key tactics that allowed his company to weather the financial crisis.
Among the factors that drove GEA Westfalia's performance was its excellent technological background.
"The German technology culture is a huge advantage," Flaata says. "A certain percentage of our turnover goes directly back to R&D. "This is independent of any market situation. It's not a topic for discussion- we won't cut funding from R&D activities."
GEA Westfalia's story can be traced back to September 1893, when friends and brothers-in-law Franz Ramesohl and Franz Schmidt opened a workshop in Oelde to start manufacturing milk separators. By 1900 more than 10,000 of their milk centrifuges were already in operation.
Today GEA Westfalia produces technical process solutions that meet challenges such as feeding the people, improving medical care, generating and using energy more efficiently, using raw materials in a more sustainable way and minimising polluting material flows. Over the last century the company has become a key global manufacturer of machines and process technology in the field of mechanical separation technology with a commitment to quality and growth.
