GEDitCOM Version 1.7 Now Supports Book Printing and Mapping
GEDitCOM 1.7 adds geographic records, mapping capabilities, and book styling features. It is available now for the Macintosh and is Lion-compatible.
Online, February 13, 2012 (Newswire.com) - GEDitCOM II version 1.7 adds mapping and book-publishing features to this established software package for the Macintosh. This release builds on existing strengths: GEDCOM compliance, extensibility, and high performance. The three feature sets new in this major release are:
- Place Records and new place editing options that provide geographic insights for family history researchers;
- Place Advisor and its access to a large database of information on places specifically helpful for understanding birth, marriage, and death records;
- Book Style Records to automate the process of typesetting and printing books derived from a family history data file.
Book support makes it easy to format and print a text document, with photographs and images, table of contents, and an index. Books look professionally typeset and are ready for printing on paper of any size. The user may define their own privacy and distribution directives; these become part of the book's text. Books may include all persons in the family or any subset desired by the user.
Place Records and Place Advisor enable the user to create maps of places important to a family's history. Custom maps may include points of interest. These points may represent places of worship, hospitals, residences, cemeteries or any other noteworthy place. Library names and locations are available via Place Advisor as a tool for the researcher. Users may select from GEDitCOM's library of icons and database of place names, or they may store locations and render maps using icons and places of their own choosing.
GEDitCOM II version 1.7 adds Lion compatibility and is available at www.geditcom.com. Beyond the three major features, version 1.7 adds more informative formats and more flexible charting. This major release is expected to enable new insights for the genealogist and promote richer stories - now with historical and geographic context - to share with other family members.
