GeoReader LLC has launched its historical marker app, GeoReader ™, for the iPhone. GeoReader™ is the first smartphone application of its kind that combines GPS technology with location mapping and voice-enabled software. The app allows users to hear the details of historical markers and other points of interest all hands free, directly from their smartphones. As users near a location of historical significance, the app will automatically read information about the point, or send a message or alert. This enables the user to hear information without looking or interacting with the app, which is especially useful when driving. GeoReader uses NeoSpeech's Text-to-Speech (TTS) product, VoiceText™ , to offer exceptional clarity and natural sounding voices, so the user experience is much like that having a personal tour guide.

Currently, GeoReader contains many states entire historical marker collections and over 120,000 historical points of interest in US, Canada, Mexico and Europe, including historical bridges and locations on the National Registry of Historic Places. GeoReader also allows historical information to be added to its database through its website www.mygeoreader.com. The app was launched first on the Android market in September 2010, and is now the highest downloaded history focused app of its kind in the Android market.

GeoReader recently also won the prestigious "People's Choice" award at the 2011 ION GNSS conference in Portland, OR. GeoReader LLC was also named to the top ten businesses in New York's Creative Core Emerging Business Competition. Nearly 100 businesses competed for the top honors of $200,000.

Applications for GeoReader™ are limitless, and can be utilized to promote local tourism, for educational purposes, to assist the visually impaired, and as a personal tour guide in a new area. Users now have a way to provide broad site specific information and have it read out loud with a clear, natural sounding voice, anytime, anywhere through GPS, smartphones and GeoReader™.
