Gerstman: Berlin Summit May Be Last Chance for U.S. Interests in Libya

Brad Gerstman of Gotham Government Relations Warns That the Berlin Summit May Be the Last Chance for U.S. Interests in Libya

A representative for Libya's Government of National Accord (GNA) is urging President Donald Trump to use next Sunday’s Berlin Summit to keep Russia and other powers from undermining U.S. interests in Libya.

Brad Gerstman warned, “Without a high-level and resolute U.S. presence at the summit, which could chart the path to resolving Libya’s strife, that vacuum will be filled by Russia, which already has hundreds of well-trained mercenaries on the ground in Libya, and by others.

“We must not allow current tensions with Iraq and Iran to distract from the clear U.S. interests at stake at this moment in Libya: Ensuring this oil-rich nation is a stable contributor to global energy markets, maintaining the strong partnership with the GNA in fighting terror, and preventing Libya from becoming a beachhead for Russia into North Africa.”

Gerstman is a founding partner of Gotham Government Relations & Communications, which has previously represented the Trump Organization and currently represents the GNA in the United States.
