Orange County, CA, August 1, 2016 (Newswire) - It is not uncommon for established car makers to develop their own luxury imprints. For example, Lexus is the high-end counterpart to Toyota, while Acura is a more upscale brand made by Honda. Hyundai, the popular Korean car maker, is adding the latest entry to this list, spinning off its popular Genesis model into its own line of luxury sedans. Get My Auto has responded to the Hyundai news with a new statement to the press.
“Hyundai has been increasing in popularity over the last several years, and the excellent Genesis sedan is a big reason for that,” says the Get My Auto press statement. “As such, it comes as no great surprise that the auto maker has decided to make Genesis its own unique brand. We predict that this will only bring further success to Hyundai, and draw more luxury-seeking auto buyers into the Genesis family.”
The 2017 edition of the Genesis G80 will be the first time the car is marketed as its own imprint, not as a Hyundai car per se. According to a report from Slash Gear, however, the new version of the Genesis will be familiar to anyone who has driven one of the older ones.
Says the report, “The powertrain options on the G80 are unchanged: a 3.8-liter V6 with 311 horsepower and 293 pound-feet of torque, or a 5.0-liter V8 with 420 hp and 383 lb-ft. Both engine types are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and standard rear-wheel drive, while the V6 model also has an all-wheel drive option.”
The new Genesis will feature familiar interior features, as well as a few new bells and whistles. Robust safety features will also be built in, Slash Gear notes, including “blind spot detection, high beam and lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, and a standard rearview camera with the option for a head-up display.”
The new Genesis luxury line isn’t yet on sale, but should be by the fall. No pricing has been announced, but Hyundai confirms that a second model—the slightly-larger G90 sedan—will also be included in this new luxury imprint.
“Genesis will ultimately solidify the standing of Hyundai among the world’s top vehicle manufacturers,” Get My Auto concludes.
