Get Noticed Affiliate Marketing
Online, January 5, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Affiliate marketing's root word is marketing. What is the number one rule of marketing? We would have to say that you have to stand out, that is what marketing is all about is making a unique, powerful "mark" on the marketplace.
When you're doing affiliate marketing online, this is doubly important because there are minimal physical elements that you can incorporate into your business persona. There are countless men, remember, who depend upon physical presence to dominate business scenarios, for example look at how many CEOs are over six feet tall and this should tell you something.
How can you be over six feet tall in the world of online affiliate marketing?
Phone Skills
You have to know how to talk to someone on the phone. You have to know how to call up an affiliate manager and make a good impression, get accurate information, establish the potential for a long-term profitable partnership.
This takes practice. Get in the habit of getting on the phone and getting to the point while still getting what you want.
It's an art and as such needs to be practiced.
Amateur Emails
There is also the problem of amateur emails. This happens when professional affiliate marketing people interact with someone who doesn't know how to interact over email and this alerts everyone in the vicinity that you are a rank amateur.
It's OK to be an amateur when you are super new to the game, but you have to progress quickly beyond that and not rely on beginner's luck to get noticed.
If you send long, rambling emails that don't lead to anyone making any money, if you send emails with all kinds of typos that make you look stupid ("too" instead of "to"), you are going to have a tough time convincing that affiliate manager that you're a good partner.
If, by contrast, your emails are clear and to the point, not pushy but not soft, either, then you are going to stand out because 90 percent of emails that come to an affiliate manager are bogus, so if you're saying something real, you can make a mark.
Ask and Ye Shall Receive
Possibly one of the greatest quotes of all time is this: "You don't get what you deserve in life, you get what you negotiate." Seriously, is there any quote more apt for the online business environment? Not that we know of.
You have to realize, even as a beginner affiliate, that the vast majority of affiliate program managers are amendable to a certain degree of negotiation. Yes there are those big affiliate programs where "it is what it is," but most times, there's a degree of flexibility.
Unfortunately, sometimes this advice gets interpreted to only be about commissions, i.e. you should be asking for a raise every 6-12 months. However, this is not the point here.
You can negotiate other, more creative benefits than only commission raises (though those are nice too!). You can ask an affiliate marketing manager to let you offer an exclusive discount, you can ask affiliate managers to provide you with better-looking banner ads, you can ask questions directly to the affiliate manager to find out where the program is going strategically.
Don't be a cipher!
Don't be the guy somewhere out there in cyberspace too shy to speak up. If you want something in life, including affiliate marketing success, you have to ask for it.
But the good thing is, if you ask for it in the right spirit, enough times, and with enough honest work underpinning that request, you will likely get what you are seeking--and maybe even, with some luck, you may receive something entirely more wonderful.
