Giddy Yoyo, An Ontario Organic Artisan Chocolate Company Wins People's Choice Award

Small Organic Artisan Chocolate Factory Experiences Rapid Growth and Recognition Since Receiving Prestigious Industry Award

- via NaturalPresswire.com -- giddy yoyo, an Organic Artisan chocolate company based in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada was the winner of the 2011 "People's Choice Award" from the Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA), Canada's largest national trade associated devoted to the natural foods industry. The giddy yoyo Company was selected amongst 550 exhibitors at the CHFA Expo East in Toronto.

giddy yoyo is a new organic chocolate brand from Orangeville, Ontario, Canada that is capturing attention for its raw, pure, dark chocolate bars made from non-roasted (hence "raw") organic cacao imported from the mineral rich mountains of Ecuador. The company is run by a couple, Mark Handy and Bridgitte Longshore, who share a keen interest in the highest integrity pure "superfoods" and a deep love of chocolate. The secret to their success in achieving the award, according to Mark, was the special flavor of the giddy yoyo chocolate and how it makes people feel.

Most chocolate lovers today know that dark chocolate has health benefits, including antioxidants. "The real magic of this chocolate is what happens in your brain," Mark said. "This raw, organic dark chocolate has mood boosting properties and an aphrodisiac quality. You feel a magical effect that you just don't get elsewhere."

Mark also explained that the cacao they use is an heirloom variety specially grown at high elevation in Ecuador. Because it is naturally smooth and sweet, and does not have a bitter quality, it does not need to be heavily sweetened to be palatable. Roasting chocolate also alters its flavor. giddy yoyo is a raw 75% dark chocolate that retains its natural quality and health benefits. It contains no artificial additives, preservatives or emulsifiers, nuts, dairy, refined sugar, soy or lecithin, and is manufactured in a dedicated facility (soon to be Certified Organic by Ecocert Canada).

"Through our research, we learned that chocolate can be very good for you," Mark said. "With this product, we are taking healthy chocolate to its full potential." He explained that chocolate can also be unhealthy, depending upon its ingredients and how it is manufactured. The kind of lecithin used for chocolate production, for example, is derived by treating soy or sunflower lecithin with hexane, a chemical made from crude oil that is not intended for human consumption and is toxic even in small doses. This ingredient is found even in many organic chocolates.

The People's Choice award came unexpectedly to the chocolatiers. With approximately 2900 attendees and 550 exhibitors at the event, giddy yoyo managed to stand out from the crowd and capture the hearts of the voters who had sampled the artisan chocolate. A representative of the CHFA shared that anyone attending or exhibiting at the event was allowed to vote, and that the award was well-earned.
