GivingPoint, a youth development nonprofit in Atlanta, Georgia, and the Health Sciences and Research School at Carver have found a "clean" way to earn grant funding to support their "Our Environment, Our Stewardship, Our Future" proposal. GivingPoint recently entered a grant program sponsored by the Clorox Corp. Participants have the opportunity to win $20,000 or $50,000 for schools. The program will support youth-led service-learning initiatives that address childhood obesity and encourage healthy lifestyles.

Teens from Carver and the YMCA of Metro Atlanta will have the opportunity to design and build an outdoor courtyard, garden and fruit tree orchard that will benefit the entire community. With this funding, Clorox can provide teens with the resources and tools they need to study the environmental hazards associated with industrial farming and the critical need for sustainable agriculture. This 10-month project will give youth more than 500 hours of meaningful service-learning opportunities. Through GivingPoint's program, teens can track, verify and earn points for their volunteer service on their website, www.mygivingpoint.org. They can "cash in" their points for micro grants that are donated to their favored nonprofits. All of their good deeds will be recorded in GivingPoint's database, so teens have a safe and secure place to document their giving legacy and build their civic transcripts.

"GivingPoint's program will benefit the community by educating them on environmental responsibility and making healthy life choices. We can't win this grant without the community's support. Please vote for your project today and everyday through November 1, 2010" said Ansley Jones Colby, CEO of GivingPoint.
