Global Product Management Talk on Gamification and Product Management

Christopher Cummings, Director of Product Management, discusses how integrating game-like functionality into non-game products and services, dramatically alters the rules of engagement for product development and product marketing.

According to Christopher Cummings, gamification is revolutionizing the way product managers and product marketers are leveraging their product strategies. He is seeking to bring his insights from the gaming industry and apply them to the product management field. To stimulate the discussion, Christopher will ask the attendees some questions including: How do product managers leverage the trend of gamification in their product strategy? And more importantly, how do product managers and marketers measure the success of their implementations?

Each week, The Global Product Management Talk features an expert guest speaker who raises questions to stimulate the twitter discussion in response to questions preposted on facebook.

Christopher leads product management for Lycos' portfolio of community and games products, including Gamesville.com, Angelfire.com and private label solutions. Prior to working at Lycos, Christopher served as senior product manager for GameLogic, Inc., where he oversaw development of gaming and customer acquisition solutions for regulated, land-based casinos in both the United States and the United Kingdom. He regularly blogs about product management at his personal site, "Product Management Meets Pop Culture."

Christopher will be "speaking" at the weekly Twitter event on Monday, May 16, 2011 at 4:00 PM Pacific Time, which will be Tuesday, May 17 at 10:00 AM Australian Time.

"The Global Product Management Talk has proven to be a valuable way to share hard-earned lessons with product management professionals all around the world. I'm excited to bring my unique insights from the games industry and hopefully stimulate some new thoughts and compelling conversations", shared Cummings.

The Global Product Management Talk was conceived by Cindy F. Solomon, a San Francisco Bay Area certified product manager who engages knowledge communities and embraced by Adrienne Tan, founder of brainmates, an Australian product management company, to bring international product managers together with experts in the field.

The Global Product Management Talk on twitter, since its inception in February 2011, has had a clear focus on addressing the needs of international hi-tech professionals in the product management and product marketing and related expert domains. It is the largest twitter chat with this focus in the world. Weekly up to 50 product people are engaged live during the discussion, with retreets occurring for days.

Weekly, Solomon curates the guest speakers, identifies the Twitter talk focus and posts questions to ponder, inviting participation via social media. The speaker is invited to join a Skype conference call during the event to discuss twitter comments, although active participation is taking place digitally within the twitter stream. After the event, the transcript is made available and participants are encouraged to expand upon their statements and insights by blogging to continue the conversation.
