GlobalAustin's Distinguished Speaker Series Welcomes Peace Corps' Dr. Josephine Olson
AUSTIN, Texas, June 19, 2019 (Newswire.com) - GlobalAustin, in partnership with St. Edwards University, is proud to announce that Peace Corps director Dr. Josephine Olson will be addressing the importance of global engagement to assembled guests at a June 19 gathering. Her presentation will begin at 6:15 p.m. and is preceded by a reception at 5:30.
Doctor Olsen began her term as the 20th director of the Peace Corps in March 2018. She is a Salt Lake City, Utah, native who started with the Peace Corps as a volunteer in Tunisia. She served there between 1966 and 1968. In the years since, she has served in a variety of additional roles, including:
· Acting Director (2009)
· Deputy Director (2002-2009)
· Chief of Staff (1989-1992)
· Regional Director, North Africa, Near East, Asia, Pacific (1981-1984)
· Country Director in Togo (1979-1981)
Olson's accomplishments outside of the Peace Corps include directing the Fulbright Senior Scholarship Program and serving as a professor of international social work at the University of Maryland.
Her June presentation will focus on global engagement and the need for average citizens to get involved. Olson will draw from her own personal experience as well as those things she has learned about global engagement from others.
