Globe University-Appleton Staff and Students Give Back by Preparing USA Youth Sports Complex for Upcoming Season
Over 25 volunteers cleaned, painted and planted at the 80-acre complex with the City of Appleton Parks and Recreation Department.
Online, May 25, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Globe University-Appleton students and staff volunteered at the USA Youth Sports Complex in collaboration with the City of Appleton Parks and Recreation Department as part of the university's annual Community Service Day.
Bill Lecker, City of Appleton Parks and Recreation Director, stated that without the support of Globe University, it would have been difficult to complete the various projects performed by Globe staff and students prior to the upcoming Wisconsin State Cup Soccer Tournament on Memorial Day weekend or the Midwest Region Soccer Tournament scheduled for June 25.
"The group was able to complete many projects that greatly enhanced the complex and will benefit the thousands of participants and family members who visit the complex every year," Lecker said.
The group split up tasks such as painting trim on buildings, weeding, and spreading mulch throughout the complex. They also stained field recognition signs and planted hundreds of flowers and plants along the entrance to the park, dedication area and complex headquarters.
Globe University-Appleton Director of Career Services Jenny Schroth felt that the day was a great success.
"Not only did our team assist the USA Youth Sports Complex with their needs, but we also had fun and built positive rapport among us. What a wonderful feeling to physically work hard while helping a local organization," Schroth said.
