GoldKey Unveils Vital Security Features for Active Directory
Online, August 8, 2011 (Newswire.com) - GoldKey Security Corporation announced today the release of its smart card minidriver with support for Microsoft® Crypto APIs (CAPI) for easy integration with PKI applications. With the new minidriver, GoldKey users may effectively deploy two-factor authentication for Microsoft Active Directory® without the need for additional software or middleware.
In contrast to password-only authentication, GoldKey's smart card solution provides a far more robust security model by requiring users to authenticate with two factors, something they have (GoldKey USB Security Token) and something they know (the user's PIN). In light of recent security breaches surrounding the use of OTP (One-Time-Password) tokens, GoldKey represents a solid alternative for securely authenticating Active Directory users.
"The release of GoldKey's minidriver is a significant milestone in helping users painlessly transition to two-factor authentication," said Jon Thomas, VP of Sales at GoldKey. "GoldKey's smart card solution is a "must-have" for enterprise users who maintain Active Directory deployments."
GoldKey's USB Smart Card Token eliminates the need for an external smart card reader and is ideally suited for log-in authentication and document signing. GoldKey does not require an internal battery for power and features a rugged, water-tight design - making it one of the most durable smart card tokens on the market.
In addition to supporting Microsoft Crypto APIs (CAPI), GoldKey's minidriver also supports the next generation Cryptography APIs (CNG) for advanced security such as elliptical curve cryptography (ECC).
Key Features of GoldKey's Active Directory Authentication Token Solution:
- Two-factor authentication for Active Directory login, locally and over Remote Desktop
- Storage of up to 24 certificates with private keys on the GoldKey
- Support for certificate enrollment using the standard Windows Crypto APIs
- Support for many PKI applications, including mail signing, EFS, BitLocker, and SSL/TLS authentication
- Supported key types: RSA-1024, RSA-2048, ECC P256, and ECC P384
(ECC is not supported on older versions of Windows)
GoldKey's minidriver supports the following operating systems in both 32bit and 64bit versions: Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2
