Goodwill Industries of Central Texas was awarded the Grant for Technology Opportunities for the second year by the City of Austin. Goodwill will continue to put the money toward expanding its assistive technology resources to include computer courses for people with disabilities.
Taught by an experienced instructor, Goodwill will offer four basic and advanced courses that will provide people with disabilities the opportunity to learn computer skills, including Word, Excel, typing, email and Internet skills. This grant will provide 120 Central Texans with disabilities access to computer classes that utilize assistive technology, such as voice recognition software, magnification software, specialized keyboards and more.
Allowing Goodwill to take further strides toward its mission of providing job-related services to people with disadvantages, these classes will incorporate job search and life skills, such as creating a resume, email account and budget.
