Goodwill to Provide Technology Classes for People with Disabilities
Online, May 2, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Goodwill Industries of Central Texas was recently awarded the Grant for Technology Opportunities for the amount of $15,000 for the third year in a row by the City of Austin. Goodwill will continue to put the money towards expanding its assistive technology resources to include computer courses for people with disabilities.
Taught by an experienced instructor, Goodwill will offer four basic and advanced courses that will provide people with disabilities the opportunity to learn computer skills, including
Word, PowerPoint, typing, email and Internet skills. Classes will be taught in small groups to provide the individual attention needed for learning basic technology-related skills. This
grant will provide 110 Central Texans with disabilities access to computer classes that utilize assistive technology, such as voice recognition software, magnification software,specialized keyboards and more.
Allowing Goodwill to take further strides toward its mission of providing job-related services to people with disadvantages, these classes will incorporate job search skills, such as creating a resume, cover letter and email account.
