Google Expected To Launch Its Cloud Computing Service
Online, July 9, 2012 (Newswire.com) - After launching its cloud driven application, Google Drive earlier this year, Google announces the launch of its own cloud computing service, called 'IaaS' at the coming Google I/O developers' conference 2012, to be held from 27th June to 29th June in San Francisco. Confirming the news, Google said that with this mega launch, the web giant will compete with its rivals, Amazon and Microsoft, who already are struggling to hold their ground in the corporate cloud services market. It is said that the web giant, Google's cloud platform might contend with Amazon's EC2 cloud service, while according to some, it might build an infrastructure similar to what Microsoft has been working on for so long.
Although Microsoft and Google, both have their software suites in the cloud, for instance, Microsoft with Office 365 and Google with Apps for Business respectively, building their own cloud infrastructure could be financially beneficial for both the companies.
Reports say that, Google, which already has similar storage services for its developers like, Google Cloud Storage and Google App Engine will all be rolled under the comprehensive cloud service after its launch. Although Amazon has become a target of Google only due to its cloud services, the real target of the company is Microsoft, and its enterprise developer community, which is one of the biggest strengths of Microsoft. However, reports also reveal that the company is mulling over the idea of entering into an alliance with third parties like Rightscale and Opscode, for its Cloud Management Services.
Cloud computing, which is available in three forms, namely, Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS) increases the levels of rented virtual resources. Making a choice for an IaaS model Google has opted to depend on virtual servers for storage space.
However, experts have claimed that it will be one of the good opportunities for Google to attract the developers by getting into the enterprise cloud space as early as possible.
