Google Unveils Its Compute Engine Application
Online, July 13, 2012 (Newswire.com) - During the Google I/O developer's conference, Google has announced the launched of its new IaaS based cloud computing service, meant for running and creating applications called, 'Google Compute Engine', a service more massive than that of its existing Google App Engine. According to Urs Hölzle, the senior Vice President of Google for technical infrastructure, the service is capable of running a single application across 600,000 core processors. It has the scalability to run each application including both large and small at a breakneck speed. He also added that, the launch is expected to give a tough competition to Amazon's newly launched cloud based web services.
At the conference, Google announced that the new Compute Engine service would offer more options to the developers for new application creation than that of the existing Google App Engine, and would give them the right to access a profound computing power via internet.
Hölzle said that the service would provide the capability to manage Linux virtual machines (VMs) based on either the CentOS 6.2 or the Ubuntu 12.04 Linux distributions. The dissemination runs over the KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) hypervisor. The Computing engine is also capable of providing storage and networking services, said Hölzle. He also informed that the internet heavyweight has also partnered with third party software retailers like, Opscode, Puppet Labs and RightScale to provide better and supplementary administration functionalities.
The Google Compute Engine service, which is expected to be available soon, is currently available only in a limited edition, accessible through Google's sales force. Moreover, unlike other cloud services which can be used only for personal or limited business purposes, the new Compute Engine can win the race by its capability of performing all large scale projects and providing its clients to earn 50 % more income.
Report says that Google has opted to launch its own cloud computing service as the company looks at it as another alternative for earning revenue. The service was till date available internally among the Google employees, but now it will be available for the masses.
